Default Engine ID

I just picked up a complete 327 today for free and was wondering if anyone can tell me what it is by the ID stamped on the pad. I have never seen a stamping like this one. It is T05I9KA. Thanks Skip

T=Tonawanda engine plant
0519= assembly date May 19
KA= might be a 265cu in from a 56 Truck. The casting date and number will confirm.

Low HP 327 block. KA must actually be HA. Need the casting date and VIN derivative to narrow down further.

Mike I have wire brushed the block stamping till this thing shines and I would swear it says KA. It has a stock 4 barrel carb and intake on it and the engine dosen`t look to have been touched so I don`t think it is a low hp engine. It came out of an old cop car.

It doesn't matter what intake, carb, or valve covers are on it. The codes tell the tale. All that stuff could have been added years ago.

It`s a small journal 327 with 1.94 heads and if this engine has been touched in the last 30 years you could fool me. I am surprised I can still turn it over. It was in a Georgia State Patrol car that was wrecked so I seriously doubt anyone would have added an intake, carb or valve covers to a wrecked cop car sitting in the back of a junk yard. It still had oil in the pan with no water in it as the hood was still on the car. I am just puzzled by the KA block stamping. I am planning on using it to replace the tired 283 thats in my 66 El Camino.

Jeeze, I'm just tryin' to help you here. Third request. The VIN derivative is on the engine pad next to the engine plant stamp.

Thanks Mike I know you are trying to help and I appreciate it, but thats the code everyone is telling me is wrong. It is T05I9KA and I have wire brushed it till it shines and it still looks like a KA to me.

There should be another code on the same pad with the 'T05I9KA' that is the number Mike is asking for. Or are you saying there is nothing on the pad other than 'T05I9KA'?

There should be two, separate stampings on the engine pad. The one you've already quoted is the engine plant assembly stamp. The other stamp will a derivative of the original vehicle VIN and has a slightly smaller font.

The other info required is the casting date of the block (not casting number or engine assembly stamp) and is found on the rear upper flange of the block. This will appear as a single alpha character followed by three or four numeric. ex. A0168 or maybe A168 etc.
