Intake Question - 1980
I need someone to clear something up for me...
I personally think that I have an intake leak on both sides of my intake at the two bolts closests to the middle of the intake on both sides near the carburator. When i spray carb cleaner however, no increase in idle, but I get bubbles that are appearing on both sides.
Do the heads get hot enough to boil the carb cleaner or water that I pore in these locations? If the answer is NO, then i firmly believe that I have an intake manifold leak then and I am going to replace the gaskets with newer thicker and softer gaskets that they make now.
Please help....
Thanks.

If you're getting bubbles when spraying near the exhaust crossover under the carburetor, and it's bubling, that's because it's rather hot where the exhaust pre-heats the fuel under the carb., which would cause a solvent to boil away quickly.
If you have an intake leake, spraying starting fluid, or an unlit propane torch, around the intake/head joints, should cause the engine to smooth out/speed up.

Yes, i do have a rough idle as well when the car gets put into gear, it dies and needs to be restarted. Plugs, wires and cap and rotor have been replaced and plugs have been gapped to 045.
Bubbling appears along intake edges where it matches up to Heads on both sides. Bubbling appears the most in areas closest to the carburator.
Thanks for help.

I wish I could add more info. on this, but spraying the head/intake joints with carb. cleaner, or propane are the only things I can think of. That worked for me after much head-scratching after firing mine up after a total re-build.
So, what precipitated this? Did you do something to the engine to create this? An intake swap, etc? If it just started all by itself, then we're looking at lots of different possibilities. Let's start with how/when things changed.
Tell me more...
