I have an 82 that is Silver with dark red interior. The stats say there are only 711 made in this exterior color, unknown in this color combo.
The car has 57K on it and is mostly stock but items need replacement and need maitenance.
My dilemma is do I keep it stock as I do my work on it or do I make improvments on it that represent the technology changes that have occurred in the last thirty years.
my car was silver with black interior.it is now red.i like silver but if i repaint it, it will not be silver.some will tell you it has to be factory original.some times improved cars sell better than factory correct cars other times not.you have to decide what you like .my car is not ever going to be a museum car or factory correct ,its a driver that i have a lot of fun in.i try and do nothing that will devalue it .but it has 100k miles on it .they made 25,000 cars in 82 .if you make it run good and look good you should do okay on resell.
I wouldn't customize a 57K car............now a 157K car = GAME ON
Realistically, you wouldn't get many chances for replacement/customizing on that low mile a car, then that leaves you pulling off working parts to upgrade/resto.
If you are looking at upgrading to todays technologies - I don't see that that is going to hurt you when you go to sell it. What kind of upgrades are you looking at?

My car sits low in the rear so I was planning on changing the rear spring this winter. I have a 9 leaf steel spring now. I know a composite spring is superior to steel, thus this thread. Do I keep it original or put in the better part. There will be more part replacements in the future where there are multiple options. The prior owner did change the steering wheel with an original looking one with chrome spokes and he put original style chrome rims on the car. Other than that the car is unmolested so I guess its not 100% stock....
You have the two trains of thought. Is your car about money or fun? If about money, leave it as it. It will cost you less and probably get more if you ever sell. If you mod, it costs more now and costs more at resale, but often makes the car more fun.
But it is way more fun creating your own beast vs. driving around in the car the engineers created for the masses 30 years ago.
