Hello all, sprung me a a leak in my upper radiator hose. My buds at work tell me I need to change upper and lower at the same time, makes since. question is has any one had luck with auto zone, orielly bought hoses, or do I need to get better ones. And if so what company.
1980 non l82.
Thanks
Robert
this actually happened to me today... realized i was leaking coolant and stopped by a local autozone and realized a hose from radiator to reserve was popped out of place. popped it back in and put a gasket / wrap over it to hold it in place til i get to my mechanic tmrw.
also added a bit more coolant from it leaking all day.
i was going to post a thread asking for advice on preferred hose brands / retailers / and sizes but you beat me to the punch
When you change the bottom hose, check inside for a spring before you toss it. Found one in mine. New hoses probably dont need it but I felt it provided double protection from collapsing.
Previous owner had Gates hoses but I bought local and picked up Dayco. Did a google search and didnt find any major complaints. They had the right bend and I had to cut to length.
i posted some pics in a thread awhile back about the autozone delivered dayco hoses and i had to send them all back.the lower hose was paper thin in one spot and they all, heater hoses included, had a plastic tie of some sort run through the hoses and way down from the end, they were also short so i could not just trim the ends.hunted down gates hoses and the difference was night and day.seemed heavier duty.

Thanks all for the info, Oreillys sells the Gates brand, will give them a shot.
