Why go to manual steering?

I drove my car for 37 years with manual steering. No problem, I liked it. As I got older (and weaker) the steering became a chore. I installed a factory power steering. I now drive the car much, much more. It restored the pleasure to driving my vette. I should have done it years before. Go with the power steering, there is no reason to go manual.

Only problem is that the location off the power steering reservoir and the generator make it very difficult to use my timing light since they hide the timing marks. Any advice on this problem?

the lines, ram, and pump hold power steering fluid nearly as good as a colander does i figured rather than spending a goodly amount of money there, when i dont have to, wouldnt make alot of sense right now. 109.99 for a rebuilt pump, brackets are around 40 dollars or so, hoses are going to be around 60 for the set, the ram/cylinder is 139 dollars, that makes a grand total right at 350 dollars not including the fluid. that 350 will buy me a set of the oem style seat covers and the install kit. i checked the steering box and found no play at all in it, i have it out of the car right now so i can replace seals and paint it

Agree with some of the other posts. Parking is a pain but once moving no big difference. Easy way to check with out doing alot of work if you can isolate your pump pull of the belt depending how your engine is set up and drive it with out the power steering pump working that will give you a good idea on how it will feel

i did the power to manual steering conversion because i needed a better feeling at speed and to save 24lbs on the front.
but my car is a weekend warrior not a DD. the steering effort at low speed and when parking is really high
if you need to rebuild the steering box , send it to Gary Ramadei (gtr1999)
Aldo
p.s. i didn't replaced the pitman arm etc...I used the power steering stuff but replaced the control valve with a modified one ( with the inner valve removed and play removed too)
