Pull the visor off (it just slides off) and then I think I read somewhere you just twist the rod from the bottom and it will unscrew. Not sure though.

You have to pry off the retainer on the end of the rod. Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? It will help.

FWIW: you will probably need new retainers. The existing pair is not likely to survive being removed.

You need to force it out, it is a sort of locking ring with teeth on the inside, as you can see in your picture, and it 'bites'in the rod.
It helps if you can get a tiny screwdriver in one of the spaces.
Mine survived and is re-usable, but these spring clips are available from the well known suppliers.
While on the subject, why is the drivers side sun visor called telescopic, and the other not? What the difference?
Mine came without this driver side sunvisor, only the 90* joint was in place.
Sorry for highjacking if you feel I do :o

AIMs show assembly since that was what was going on at the plant. They do not show disassembly, but knowing how something went together is often helpful when it comes time to take it apart.

My special removal tool was a screw driver. Use an appropriate size socket when you press on the new retainers.

One of the Corvette magazines did a How To article on this. Vette might have it in their archives. Willcox might have it on their site.

Once you get to the point you are at.. simply drive the top of the visor rod downward. This will usually destroy the clip and there is a spring under there that will offer some resistance. But the shaft just drive out.

When you go back to install the rod it gets a bit trickier. You put the rod in, then the spring and you sit the retainer on top the rod. Using a small spacer (old socket) that fits over the clip you push down about as hard as you can and the new clip will bite the rod.

I have an old socket with an old beat up extension so that when I push downward I can also tap the top with a hammer and force the clip over the end of the rod.

Clip and spring..

Ok i got passenger side sunvisor rod out but when I try to reinstall the new rod , it is about 1/2 inch from even touching the retainer lock. I dont see myself being able to press the spring that much. i rechecked to make sure I ordered the correct 1 and I did, just asking if there is something I am missing here, i think i can sand down the shaft on the new rod so that it would slide up a little farther but just wonderung if that is something I should have to do?....

It looks to me, that there is a second 'step' on the old rod, which is larger.
In that case you would need a file to reduce the diameter of the new one.
If you have a vernier, than that will tell you how much material needs to be removed.
Success.
