Default harmonic balancer

i have a oil leak at the seal between the timing cover and the oil pan.i will have to remove the harmonic balancer to take off the timing cover .i think now would be a good time to replace the balancer.should i replace with factory or one of the fancy ones .any advantage to the high dollar ones?

If you have a stock engine the only advantage is they usually have the degrees scribed on the outter ring which can be helpful if you are changing your distributor timing curve.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if the "seal between the timing cover and the oil pan" is leaking you don't have to remove the timing cover, just the oil pan. To make life really easy, a one-piece oil pan gasket will take care of that problem.

Those little blue SnapUps in the middle of the photo make installing the gasket and pan real easy.

when i replaced my cam several years ago,i put in a new rubber seal on the bottom of the timing cover, above the oil pan.i did not know that the one piece had the seal all in one .that may be a better way .thanks
