I thought the L88 would end up at around 450k.BUT,an original engine 69 L88 in what i believe is the best color Black,i am not surprised.
I flew down there with the underbidder to inspect the car. When you combine the fact that it is black, mostly unrestored and one of only three 69 black L88s with their original motors you have the recipe for possible very strong bidding and that was definitely the case here. I was surprised that he went as high as he did but the winner wanted it a little more. I thought that the car would sell at 500/525.
So what do you think this unrestored, original engine '68 silver/gunmetal L88 CONVERTIBLE with only 3700 miles on the odometer would bring at an auction? $600k+? The interior, carpet, paint and chrome are absolutely spotless...just like the day it left the factory. Notice the 43 year old foam on the air cleaner. The American Racing wheels and oversized tires are period correct for a car that was never driven on the street, only the drag strip with various engines and open headers. The original engine and exhaust system were re-installed. These pictures were taken at the Sunshine Corvette Club car show earlier this year. It has also been trailered to the latest L88 reunion at Bloomington. The owner happens to be a special 30 year award Bloomington judge as well as my mentor, parts rebuilder and supplier. I feel fortunate to be in such good company.
That is one badass 68 L88 in a great color combo.Considering the original motor and mileage and its overall originality 5ook or better is not out of the question...BTW do you have any other pics this L88...Thanks Jerry

I know Davids car well. It is a really neat car. As for value, I am sure that it would bring a great price but from what I have been seeing is that the black and certain red cars are really commanding a premuim over the other colors. It all comes down to what someone is willing to pay at a particular time.
SBR,what is your opinion on the Black L88 and its original condition as you saw it firsthand ?
The black L88 had mostly original paint, original interior. It had great paperwork and an original motor. The motor compartment was definetly freshened up years ago and the chassis was fluffed too. Overall it is a very neat car but not 100% unrestored. But as people were saying " at the end of the day, it's black" your choices are very limited.
