so, i go to a car show today and was wondering what class i should be in? my car is a L-48 1979. mods are 80-82 front and rear bumpers, stinger hood, fixed headlights, chrome valve covers, air breather, master cyl. cover, alternator, oil dipstick, radiator overflow cap, hood springs. i took 2nd place in modified.
I'd say you were in a modified class. Custom, I would say has more substantial mods like interior, paint or body parts. Just a guess on my part, next time tell them at registration and see what class is recommended.
Custom, mostly based on the hood and bumpers for me. Modified means you changed the original to look different (which you did) but, custom means you added something new which you also did. Just my $.02.
In the NJ and eastern PA area, cars in modified classes are usually limited to bolt on modifications, while cars with fiberglass (or molded) changes fall into the custom classes.
A "modified" car has various items replaced with aftermarket items; but a modified car would not normally have any reshaped body panels. Usually, a "custom" class will have cars whose body panels have been re-shaped. Technically, you did that...but you used stock panels from other years to do it. So, I think you might fit into either class you choose. But, if I were judging a car show and was asked which class you should enter, I would say your car was "modified".
