This sure looks better than trying to do 1 side at a time. I hate seeing the rear wheel come off the ground when I'm jacking the front left or right. I guess the rear is so much lighter that it comes up along with the front.
This is the way to do it, then place jack stands under the frame behind the front wheels. I actually use 2 sets of jackstands--safety first. I did this dozens of times before I got my lift. Had a set of ramps that I used for my other car & truck, and I figured out I much prefer the jack/jack stands method. Those ramps only lasted 5 minutes out at the curb, so I know they went to a good home...
I have a 72 and there is no way to get a jack under the cross member and if you did there is no way to raise the handle. mine will go up on ramps easy though but the easiest way without a ramp is to jack one side add 1 or 2 stands and be done
I think some of the posters are using mini jacks that wont reach all the way to the crossmember and still permit access to the handle. You need a full size shop jack with a long handle.
There's no way to get your jack under the crossmember. With other jacks it is easily doable.
a larger jack wont fit under the front spoiler , if you have 2 jacks maybe raise one side a bit then slide jack under the crossmember and it will have a longer handle , there isnt alot of clearance under the front to slide anything under , can barely get a smaller jack under in front of the wheel
Jack up one side and put a jack stand under the frame. If you want jack up one side at a time and use a jack stand for each side, its not that much work for someone who like to do their own work. Why are we competing with the guys at the 10 minute oil change? Dig out a service bay in your garage and roll your car right over the top of it, then you don't have to jack it up at all and you will be done in under 20 minutes....
I have at least 10 different cars up in the air every day at work, but I will honestly say that getting the front of my 81 in the air is a PITA. I've got a very low profile jack but even that won't fit under the front spoiler. I have to take a second jack to the side and get it a few inches in the air before I can get the first one underneath the spoiler to the crossmember. Luckily the springs don't settle right away when I let it down, so I can just pull the front jack right out.
Trying to figure that one out myself...along with how someone can do a "frame off rebuild of the car" while only owning a set of rubber ramps.
Even better question: How does one take the frame off a car? I always thought you took the body off the frame, hence making it a "body off restoration". Unless you like to keep your Vette upside down or something

We suspended the entire car in the air then dropped the frame off it. I have a complete thread on this site about it if you would like to see it?
