Clearing my garage... :)
When I left OH in May and moved to B'ville, AR, I went from a generously sized pair of 2-car, attached garages into what is locally known as an oversize, 2-car garage... it doesn't work. I've sold three of my five motorcycles and associated parts and am working on parting company with the last two.
My goal is to make room in my garage to accomplish what I have not attempted in 11-12 years... engine removal and rebuild. This time, I plan to facilitate the project over the winter. The engine shop will require some research on my part but I will find a reputable outfit. NWAR may NOT the heart of NASCAR country but I'm sure the local gear crowd can help. I've an engine stand, will rent a cherry picker and am sure I can find somebody to help me remove/install the hood off the hinges. Other than that, I think I can finesse the engine/trans removal and reinstall.
Goals:
Engine - Anybody that knows the story of my L48 knows that it has been warmed over. However, it is no demon. But, it delivers 225hp and 289tq to the rear wheels reliably. Problem is, the valve train is NOISY to the point of distraction. I hope to remove the 'top end' and freshen it. I've had a new Energizer cam/lifters on the shelf waiting to be installed. I also intend to introduce the latest Comp roller rockers (1.5 ratio). The cylinder heads are DART Iron Eagle "180's" with 72cc combustion chambers running guide plates. They are also producing a light 'puff' of blue smoke on startup and I suspect the seals/guides need some attention. The engine has MAYBE 20K miles since rebuild in '99. It also sucks a little oil.
Trans - if I can have the trans shop resolve the leak coming from the area of the speedo gear, I will be happy. It shifts positively and has 0% performance issues. It is a Bow-Tie unit.
With the 3.54 spicers, the 1800rpm stall converter, and LOW first gear in the 700R4, this car literally lights the tires from a stop, through first gear and barks into 2nd gear. It is QUICK off the line. I just want to solve a few ills to add to my enjoyment factor.
Wish me luck
