Need some advice on replacement of Heater Control Head. I have removed SHIFT PLATE,SUPPORT PLATE.....How is the Control Head removed....Do I have to remove Center Console....Whats the next step. Thanks in advance.....Wayne usa2170....1976.....c3
Actually, this is how the Japanese play jokes on us. I'm sure they designed how this 'bugger' is installed, because no one with any sense would have done it this way.
You have to remove the temp control cable from the front/right side of the control head. There is a plastic retainer that is held on with a 1/4" hex head screw. Once the screw is removed, you twist the plastic piece out of its slot in the side frame, then pull the loop at the end of the cable off the lever arm. Now, wasn't that fun??? (It's even more fun to put back on. )
At this point, I think you have to disconnect the electrical wires and pull the connector apart underneath the control head. It's been a while for me. My head hurts, now.....
Stop and purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM). When it arrives, check the installation diagrams for the HVAC controls. Non AC cars will have bowden cables to play with; for AC cars you will find a bundle of vacuum hoses.
