Default replacing carb??

hey I just took the carb off my 1979 vette and was going to have my uncle go thru it and put a kit in it, but when I actually started to take all that stuff off of it I realized just how bad it really looked. It really looks bad as far as rust and just general appeareance. I would like to know if I wanted to replace it with an after market 1 just how would someone match it up or is that just not possible?

Spend $15 on the Q-Jet Rebuilding & Modification manual by Cliff Ruggles. Then spend about $20 on a gallon can of carb cleaner. Follow Cliff's instructions on taking the unit apart, then throw the metal parts into the carb cleaner for a day or so. When they come out, they will look a lot different.

If the metal carb parts are totally eaten up because they were under water for years or left out in the rain/sun for many years, they might be "toast". But, I think that's unlikely.

Your Q-Jet will look better after it comes out of the cleaner.
