Default what do you use.......

To clean the years of grime, wax, tobaco smoke, etc. off of the plastic and vinal of your C3?
And what products do you use to keep the plastic and vinal clean and shiny? My interior is all original, except for the front carpets. The original leather peices are pretty well had it, but I'm more interested in cleaning and perserving the plastic and vinal.

Thanks for the advice. . . . steve

For a nice shine, Vinylex is the best I've used. Armor all is way too shiny and Vinylex seems to have the best protection/shine level.

Everything I've used so far has just yielded medicoa results, especially in the cleaning.
I have tried to clean the dashboard several times, even with a toothbrush, but it seems to look no better.

Tuff Stuff from wal-mart to clean the vinyl. That stuff works pretty good. Then a topcoat of some stuff from the corvette shop. Looks good not to shiney. I also use it on my ski boat's interior too, still like new after 14 years..

Ok.. I'll add to this.. I use TSP.. or better known as Trisodium phosphate. You can purchase this in a box at your local hardware store (Lowes carries it) and mix it with warm water. If you look at most good cleaners you'll see this is the active ingredient.

I own some rental properties and you want to talk about smoke issues... (and yes it is prohibited, but they do it anyway)... But you mix this as directed.. you wipe.. dry and paint! Stuff cleans better than anything else I've ever used... but it's jut my opinion...

I think you will find it both effective and cheap.

IMHO,

Willcox Inc.

It's really the only cleaner you need, but for final glass clean I use water with a few aspirin (mild acid) dissolved.

A heads up on the TSP.
It's not the same stuff you could get 10 years ago at Homey Depot etc. EPA vs consumers again.
We have been getting the good stuff online for the last 5-7 years.
Same with muriatic acid. The stuff they sell to consumers now as MA is useless compared to the real stuff I get from a pool supply wholesaler.

All good advice, Thanks. I'm going to keep experimenting all the while keeping in mind, that i'm trying to clean plastic and vinal that's 38 years old. I think the TSP is next, and thanks for the heads-up noonie.

Before long all those chemicals that made doing this fun and dangerous will be outlawed. All they will leave us with is water and a sponge.

After doing some research I've become a fan of 303 products. Lots of UV protection and no silicon.
