Well I finally got my Vette to sound the way I remember them years ago as a kid. I took it to a custom exhaust place today and had the "flowmaster" 40 series put in place of the original stock mufflers. I already had the dual exhaust and Long pipe headers. WOW what a nice sound. Not loud at all idling. Great sound during take off, and to me really not all that bad inside. At about 20-25 mph it's at it's loudest inside. But still low enough that I can think and talk. After that, it's quite. Thanks to forum member "palmbeachvette76" for that special forum discount price.
Glad to hear they worked out for you. Where did you go to get them installed?, just curious since I've been looking for someone around here to do some work on mine in the future but I need someone with a mandrel bender.
Tonights the cruise-in at Outback Steakhouse in Delray Beach if you want to let your new sound be heard by a good crowd of car guys
Hard to beat 40 series Flowmasters with some full length headers and 2.5" dual exhaust. I have had them on numerous muscle cars and love them. I am about to do the same setup on my '81 as it is too quiet for my taste. I will be utilizing some small bullet cats to stay smog legal in my county.

I will try to make it tonight. My car is dirty though. I went to the guy on Military Trail between Forest and Lakeworth "custom Exhaust" Great people there. You get what you pay for. THANKS again!!
I just replace my Magnaflows with 40 delta flows. It's louder, but in a good way. I've also loved that classic Flowmaster sound. And with a cammed 454, it's even better.
I have a 76 small block four speed with true duals and flowmaster 40's on them. They sound great with a deep rumble. At about 30-35 mph they drone which they are famous for but I just don't drive the car at that speed any more than I have to. Some of the other options have a "snapping" sound when you wind the car up that I don't like as much as the deeper rumble of the flowmasters even with their famous "drone." Maybe an x crossover pipe would minimize the drone but I don't have one and am happy with it the way it is.
here's a brief, non professional clip of mine that illustrates the sound on a frosty day in March.
Ok, here is the vid. Hope it comes thru. I accidently got myself in the vid, sorry for the horror fest. LOL Here are some pic's also. Vid link at bottom... http://youtu.be/50luALKDyvE

I have the underhood mat and like it as well. Your video of the sound of the flowmasters sounds very much like mine as it should with similar setups and sounds good. I had mine run on a chassis dynomometer a few weeks ago and watched as the guy ran it up to something like 130 mph and I video'ed it with sound. If you have good speakers beyond a laptop's you can really hear the flowmasters wind up at the rpms get on up there. I'll clip the link but caution you to use good speakers or good earphones as normal laptop speakers don't do it. The exhaust is a nice tight sound at high rpms and speeds that you never hear in the car as it is left well behind you. the max is about 55% of the way through the video...without good speakers or earphones you hear too much of the high sound. With them you hear a deep underlying rumble that winds up pretty well.
