It's leaking oil not gas. I've never had this happen but it sure looks that way. AC compresser is keeping me from see the pump real good, but after last week-end trip I discovered oil all over the right side inner fender well and in the area of the forward part of the right side of the block. Top of fuel pump and first two plug wires are dripping with oil. As well as all down the sides of the pump. Oil also on top of frame rail. As well as the ac hoses and the fuel hoses near the pump. The timing chain cover and its gasket edge looks clean. Valve cover is clean. No oil on the top area of the headers or their mounting flange. This seems to me to be an unusual place to have oil all over but can't figure where else it could be coming from. I don't know if a broken diaphram in the pump could allow oil thru. Or if the pump gasket could blow out enough let that much oil out. Anybody ever have oil coming out of the fuel pump anywhere? Or any other ideas? Thanks.
It could be the pump gasket or the diaphram has a hole and blows out the vent holes or on the front of the block there is a bolt hole that goes through into the oil gallery and it should have a short bolt with sealant installed.
Yes, had that happen to mine also. Looked like a fog machine going down the road and scared the crap outta me. Same thing, oil all over, narrowed it down to the pump. Replaced it and all is good again.
Yeh, I was hoping someone would agree with me that it could be the pump. Tomorrow night I'm going to get the ac compressor out of the way and run it some more to see if I see the leak. I forgot about the bolt on the front of the block. I haven't touched it in years but it could be leaking. Thanks for the help.
Look carefully before you buy or replace anything. I thought for sure my pump was leaking, as I had oil all over the pump and S hose. When I got under the car, I realized the oil seal behind the balancer on the timing chain cover was actually leaking, and the oil was migrating down the right side of the engine. Good luck!

I have the exact same problem. But I just replaced the pump about 3-4 months ago. On short trips it only drips a couple of spots. But when I take her on a longer trip, I get watery oil running down the fram. I looked and the bottom of the pump is wet with this oil. I checked all the bolts thinking I may have a loose one. But all are tight. Think I have a bad gasket or bad pump. It is easier to take the front tire off, and put a ratchet thru the hole right to the pump.

I think we might be talking about similiar effects but different condition. If your substance is watery, make sure it is not coolant mixed with oil. In my case it is deffinately oil. If yours is watery, it could be the lower radiator hose, the heater hoses or the water pump.
thanks all.
