hood release.....
does every one have to push the hood release handle back in after pulling it out or am i missing a return spring???? i have a 79 L-48

Missing, or simply stretched with age. The release on my 68 will return all but about three quarters of an inch after 40+ years.
I can live with it.
You can take a look and see if there is any slack in the release cable which you could take up.

Mine will pull back but I push it a little bit more fore it to fully grab when I close the hood.

The 78(77?)-82 latches are different than the earlier C3s so different years may have different results.
But...I push the handle back on each of my 78/79s.
I did buy a set of latches on ebay a few years ago that had and additional spring on the driver side one. Factory? or something someone added. I left it off.
I don't think you'd want a lot of tension on the cable, either.
