I'm about to order the side fender "Stingray" emblems for my '69 Corvette and have questions on how to best affix them. I've seen comments on this forum on the pros and cons of putting them on with 3M foam tape or drilling the holes in the fenders and attaching them that way. If I affix with the 3M tape, will I not have to remove the posts on the backside of the emblem for a flush attachment? If so, what's the best way to do that? Thanks
My 73 L-48 emblems had the posts on them and the corosponding holes in the fender to match. I didn't like the idea of "sticking" them on with glue or tape, so I actually threaded the post with an 8-32 die and then used nylon insert locknuts.
The emblems sit nice and tight to the fender now. I'm not a big fan of speed-nuts, that's why I threaded the post/pins.

BTW, I did the same thing to the letters on the back, because the speed nuts had worn the pins. On these, I believe I used a 6-32 die and nylon insert locknuts.

I thought about threading mine, but worried about breaking the post. I used the 3M foam tape and grooved the post a bit and put a dollop of glue on the back side of the fender.

I just purchased the car....it has been repainted (thus the badges are not on)....the driver side fender is new as I can't see any holes...the other side i can see the whole patches from the inside. I was thinking tape versus "getting that one chance to drill them right" opportunity for the one side
Really look closely at the passenger side fender. I bet if you get the right angle in the right lighting, you will see the little blisters where the holes are.
I was able to use a small drill and by hand, re-drill the holes for mine.
On the driver's side, I would measure where the passenger side ends up and put a drop of paint on the posts and touch the car with it. Then (by hand) spin the drill bit slowly and drill the holes.
There are no L-48 emblems on fenders (or anywhere else) - - L82 emblem on the sides of the hood bump (or 454) but the L48 engine was never designated with emblems.
The fender carries the Stingray script secured with adhesive.
Apologies if I misunderstood the questions . . I understood the writer to be asking about mounting 'L-48 emblems' . . .
The 69 assembly instruction manual (AIM) has a hole drilling diagram for the original fenders. You can get the factory hole spacing from the AIM, but not the actual position on the fenders.
If memory serves, the original scripts used speed nuts on the back sides of the posts.
If you want to use emblem tape, you will want to remove the locator pins on your fender scripts. You could mark the positions on the fenders with grease pencil or something similar before you apply them.
Hi TVO,
The Stingray script emblems that are made by Trim Parts, which many vendors carry, have the double stick adhesive on them.
You just need to peel the vinyl 'shield' off them. The pins for 'speed nuts' are there too.
The adhesive is PERFECTLY shaped to the script.

Alan
