Sting Rays ran from '63 - 67. in '68 the body changed and Sting ray went away. In 69 it returned as Stingray. The designation remainend until 76.
However since the body is so similar, a lot of 77+ C3 owners still call them Stingrays. The PO added Stingray emblems to my 77. Even though they're put on crooked, I still like them.

Sting Ray refers to the body design like woman.
Some Corvette history & knowledge is helpful to ID a Stingray.
The new smaller body w/ I.R.S. was called a Sting Ray.
When it was redesigned for 68, it was called Sting Ray in the ads. It was a common custom trick to remove emblems. Emblems are an inexpensive way to differentiate a new model esp. the low volume (for GM) Corvette. The 68 was obviously new.
Stingray influences- tail on 63-67 coupes, BB hood on 65-66, wings extended from roof 68-77 & Stingray pointed nose & wing fenders.
Chassis essentially same from 63-77, body essentially same 68-77 & interior essentially same from 68-77.
There can be no question that 68-77 are Stingrays.
78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. Many changes so it's debatable. CORVETTE says it all anyway.

It's your car, call it what you want. It did not have Stingray fender scripts from the factory.

Stringray!!!!! LOL! Obviously, it's a typo, (the r is right next to the t) but it still makes me laugh.
The truth of the matter is, if it didn't come from the factory with an emblem, it's not a Stingray. But, that's all a Stingray is. A car with an emblem. A Stingray doesn't have an emblem because it's a Stingray, it's a Stingray because it has an emblem. The whole thing is kinda silly.
