Default Firestone Wide Ovals

Hey Guys, Just a quick question(s)
Is anyone running Firestone Wide Ovals?
How do they perform?
Is Coker the only place to buy them?

Cheers,Barry

Hi Barry,
I believe there's only one manufacturer. Various companies distribute them.
The appearance quality isn't very good. I ended up having seven tires shipped to find 4 that were acceptable to my eye.
They drive like a new 40 year old tire. If I drove my car regularly I put modern tires on it in a second.
My car had the Firestone rwl tires on it when it was new.
I think they look terrific on an original car.
Regards,
Alan

Unless your car is being relegated to judging events only, forget it.

We have them on our 71' also and as Alan has said 40 year old tech. On a good flat road they are fine but at times it is as if they want to float around. They do look nice on the old ride and that does grap alot of attention. Just not a REAL high performance tire, they were for the day but when you drive one of our C4' ( 87vert, 92 ZR1) there is NO COMPARISION !!!

i'm in the process of buying 4 new ones for my 78 pace car. they are 120mph tires and the reviews i have read about them are all favorable for a cruiser/show car type.

There was an article about these tires in - what was it? - Musclecar Review recently. I grabbed the issue at an airport newsstand a few months ago. They did a comparison with radial tires on a Chevelle. They were (too) polite about them I believe but it was an interesting read. Maybe you'll find a back issue.

I was contemplating buying a set for my 69. But after I talked to somebody who had used them, I changed my mind.
