Default Wiper door bumper?

I saw this part online, looked at the diagram thats provided and am not able to identify this in my '70. I don't even see this bumper when I look in the AIM. Is this supposed to be the bumper stop that is all the way to the left of the wiper door and all the way to the right? The AIM shows it as a simple screw and not this rubber circular bumper.

What is this and where does it go?

Hi r,
I believe those bumpers were used on earlier cars than your 70. Maybe, 68 only?
Regards,
Alan

I tend to agree with Alan, that the bumpers were probably only used prior to 70.

The earliest Corvette parts book I have, is a 1970 printing. It lists them as being 68-69. My 72 and 79 books, also only list them for use in 68 & 69.

According to the Parts Books, the part number for them changed a couple times. Initially they were listed as 3922012, later they are shown as 3933850, and finally in the 79 book, they carry part number 7712536. Strangely enough, 7712536 is also listed for use as a seat back bumper on 67-69 seats. Someone at GM must have figured out that the seat bumper was an acceptable substitute, for the wiper door bumper!

I have 4 used wiper doors. Only one has the bumpers still on it, but all 4 have the drilled and tapped boss, where they attach. I can't say that the other doors ever had bumpers on them, because all of them were removed from cars over 15 years ago.

I've attached pictures of the door with a bumper installed and one without. The bumpers are 12 1/2" in from the outer edge of both sides of the door. I know the door without bumpers is off a 68 (a very late one built the last week of 68 production), but I'm not too sure about the other door. All 4 of my doors, have the same part number. The door with the bumpers, appears to have the underside reinforcement cutout, milled away, while the cutout is clearly cast into my other 3 doors. Because of this, I tend to think that the door that still has bumpers on it, is from an earlier 68?

The last picture shows the bumper removed from the door, with it's original screw. The only markings on the bumper is ABC, which I believe was GM's supplier of these bumpers. ABC shows up on other original bumpers too, such as the 68-82 gas door bumpers.

Neither my 69 or 70 AIM, shows the bumper, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they weren't used. If the wiper door arrived on the assembly line, with the bumpers already in place, then the AIM wouldn't show their installation.
