Frustrated!!!
You didnt meet this guy here did you? Roast him alive for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Sorry if Im being out of line...this **** irks me. These forums arent for profit, they are to further our hobby...
Like to hear the sellers' side. Maybe you pissed them off and they raised the price. I've done that several times to low-ballers and nit-pickers.
I actually just got an email from him..and he even said himself..."I agree an increase in quality is needed to justify the price". So we will see...but I am on a hunt
Keep looking, the market's real good for buying, especailly if 'ya got 'Cash'. Don't Get too Anxious. You'll regret it in the end ! Good Luck !
1. If you agree to a price and seller later raises that price, walk away,
====> INCLUDING, if the seller comes back to your original agreed upon price, deal is still off. Deal canceled forever by seller's action
This is a variation on the auction shill scam. If you are bidding on an item, and you get outbid, never ever accept an offer from the seller telling you the high bidder has backed out.

I couldnt agree more. Think about this. If a man shakes your hand, looks you in the eye, agrees on a price etc and then jacks it up last minute... What does that say about that individual?
To me if you say something you better mean it.
You should learn something from this: that if he isn't good on his word with price, then how can you give any credit to anything else he has said about the rest of the car. Sure raises red flags for me.
There are THOUSANDS of C3s for sale, and if you have 9.5K you are willing to spend, you literally have HUNDREDS in you area to look at. For that kind of money you should be able to buy a rubber bumper car that needs almost no work. Be patient my friend

had it happen to me once. we agreed on a price, i was moving forward with getting the money together, he calls and says he has decided not to sell.. and my offer was 95% of his asking price.. in my example i dont think it was dishonorable, but in the op's case it was surely a breach of custom and etiquette.
when this happens, tell your seller that you hesitate to do business with sellers using such discretion.. .then walk away.. or at best take another 15-20% off your offer and then walk away..
I always negotiate best price before seeing the car.. especially if I am expending alot of effort to see the car
First, I want to say that there a good group of guys over there too, but it is so much easier to find the a**h**** over there too.
Over the years I have heard about the 63 group on the OTHER site as being a bunch of egotistical bitches. I would not go that far, but let's just say they are nothing like the C-3 guys I have found on this site, and that site as well.
Their word means nothing. If by chance you thing you are one of the good guys, all the guys I am talking about thought they were good guys.
I am ashmed to say that I am in the same hobby as some of those guys.
This hobby is about the cars and the poeple. I think this C-3 group helps each other out pretty good.
As soon as you become a HDF (High Dollar F***) the all mighty dollar means more than any mans word over there.
Again, there are some good guys over there. They are just much harder to find.
As our C-3's get more expensive, the hobby and the fun goes away once the all mighty dollar means more than your integrity. Once you cross the line and take the dollar over your honor, you become one of those HDF guys with no friends.
These are usually the same guys who are wondering why they never get a break or pay absolute top dollar for every part they get.
The only good thing I have to say is, once I find out that they are a HDF, I try to sell them as many parts as I can.
This is a great group of C-3's guys. Let's keep it that way.
I LOVE YOU GUYS,
Remember it is a hobby. In this hobby, helping somebody out can come back ten fold very easily when you get hooked up with the right guys.
Wish you guys all the best.
Tell the guy to go to hell and move on.

With this one I would give the guy my number and tell him the new offer is $7,500.
Chances are you would get a call from one or both of them after the car sits for a while longer. I wouldn't pay asking price for either one after the B.S. on the price switching.

after 30 mins or so of me going over the car & not saying a word, i asked him , what is the lowest price you will take ?
he said , he could not let it go for less than $ 9000
i stuck out my hand & said , consider it sold.
that was Saturday January 30, 2007 , he had the cash 2 days later.
if the transaction can not be honest & upfront , from beginning to end, walk & don't look back.
keep looking, you will find what you are looking for , at the price you are prepared to pay.
Pete.
Ask to see the receipts for the work that is claimed to be done. Check to see how long ago it was done. Last month or two years ago?

Back in 1989 I was in the market for a Corvette. I sold a 68 and a 69 to buy my first house. I got every paper each day and looked at each weekly the day they came out.
On a Saturday, the local auto dealer paper came out. I happened to be my birthday. I live in the Easy Bay of the S.F. Bay Area. I got the local paper and a 1972, 454, 4-speed, with A/C, just turned 35K miles was in it. I called and left a message.
Again, it was my birthday and we had dinner plans across the bay. We went to dinner and decided to come back to this side of the bay to have drinks. Less distance to drive home.
Here comes the good part..... On the way to the bar where we were to meet the rest of our group, I talked my wife into running by the house to check our phone machine (No cell phones back then) Sure enough the guy called.
It was 10:30 PM on a Saturday night. I asked the guy, "What time can I come see the car." He said, "The first guy that called said he would be here at 9;00 a.m, so the next guy said he would bwe here at 7:00 and on and on. He said if you really want to se the car, you better come now. I onlyhad $3000 at the house, but I took it.
We made a deal that night for the car. I owed him a balance of $4,500 to be paid before 6:00 p.m. on the following Monday.
That Sunday Morning we had togo out of town for a friends birthday. I could actually see the guys driveway from the freeway. It was way far away, but as we drove by, I could tell the car was in the drivwe way.
I felt I stold the car. My guess is it was worth about $13K at the time.
We came home that Sunday night and I was so worried that some other clown would come in and offer the guy more money and I would not get the car. I actually could understand it if he did.
He called me late that Sunday evening and ask me one question. He said :Is this car for you, is it something you are planning to eventually sell" I told him no, I plan on keeping the car for a long time.
He then went on to tell me that he had some pretty good offers for the car. One was twice what I had paid.
He said "I gave you my word, but if you do just turn the car over to one of these guys for a profit, maybe you can send a little over here for not selling out of under you"
I told him not to worry. I would not be selling the car.
MY POINT IN TELLING A RUN ON STORY LIKE THAT IS; THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE WHO DO THE RIGHT THING IN THIS WORLD.
Do not get involved in dealing with these clowns. Trust me, they are goingto do that little scam to the wrong person and wish they had not.
Move on.
This is just telling me you have not found the right car yet.
Enjoy the hunt. Don't you feel alive right now though.
Wish you the best.
I still own the 72
