As you guys know I was looking at an 77 and 81. Well let me tell you how my last 2 days have gone...
I go to meet the guy with the 81, a lot done to the car...a few little things need to be done...all in all car was decent.... So we had agreed on 7500, but he tells me yesterday he needs 8500 because he sat down last night and tallied up everything, and he needs 8500. The car is ok...and I would have bought it if the price stayed at 7500, but at 8500 I'm like....ehh.
Ok so today I go to see the 77. Great looking car, looks better than the 81, less issues. I ask how much he says 8500. So we talk...I try to get him down some(I knew he already wanted 9000 but lowered it) we agree on 8500. He calls the guy who he is selling the car for....and he says he cant take less than 9500! WTF!!!! It's a long story but pretty much he needs 9500.
Now with the 77....I would still pay 9500, its had a lot of work done to it looks and sounds pretty good...I liked it. Except now...9500 is right out of my price range and I already had my mind set on a lower price. I know damn well I don't have to buy the car...problem is I want the car.... Arrggghhhhhh people are ruining my C3 shopping experience I swear! Sorry guys...this is where I come to Vent! Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
I would hold out for a good deal on a nice car. With this economy the prices should be right on the c3 market on the years you are looking at.Goodluck hunting!
If I were you I would walk. If they are playing games with you and adjust pricing AFTER they agreed to sell it to you, then they don't know how to sell cars, or they got higher offers after they committed to sell it to you and are trying to match it. This is a buyers market and for them to start playing shell games with an agreed upon price, then who knows what other problems you will find with the car. I don't do business with unscrupulous people, but that's just me. Do what your gut tells you, but hold firm on the agreed upon price.
i have bought a lot of cars the week of cristmas.dont be in a hurry .those people that you talked to ,just be sure and leave a phone number.p.s. if i totaled up my reciets i would be pissed at how much i had spent and will never get it all back, but i had a good time.its a hobby.

I have totaled up all my work on my 77 and have over 30k in it...after paying 75 for it..
Give them till after turkey day and let xmas get closer and I bet youll have a new C3 under your tree by Xmas....like said leave your # and your price.... You will find other C3's you will like just dont be in a rush....
I am a little less frustrated now, and not as pissed the f*ck off!
I agree with you guys...these games in this economy are ridiculous. I am not as pissed off with the guy with 77...he was told by the owner to sell if for 8500, and then today he is told no. Besides he is a cool guy and had some other cool cars to look at so oh well.
But yeah I'm going to wait it out...someone with the right car will come along...hopefully
It's a buyers market, there isn't that much live money out there. You do not have to buy today, there are 1000's of C3 out there and there are people who are ready to sell not just fishing.
i am an anxious and impatient person and can understand your frustration.i forced myself to slow down, enjoy the hunt and not let anyone upset me,and some tried.whenever i see a car up her that looks like a buy i think of you but realize this is way too far and not practical for your purposes.cars up here tend to run more also.force yourself to enjoy this.
Tried to RAISE the price after he quoted you? Oh HELL no. Walk away from that. What a juicebag! Added up his investment? Uh...Im thinking the guy is just being greedy, quoted you too low, saw how eager you are and tried to soak you. Just for that stunt, you should set up another appointment with him and postpone it several hours....and not show at all.

With this guy I would give him my number and tell him my new offer is $6,000.

Chances are you would get a call from one or both of them after the car sits for a while longer. I wouldn't pay asking price for either one after the B.S. on the price switching.
Scottd has it right....the seller is seeing how eager and excited you are and jacking up the ante on you. Skip these 'turkeys'; you don't need their kind of grief and there are lots of nice cars out there.
Learn from this. Next time, play it more cool and tone down the excitement. Put on the "I can take it or leave it" routine....until the deal is done!

I am that eager guys who imulse buys stuff. My mistakes: Universal M1 Carbine when I could have bought USGI for 100 more. 87 Suzuki Madura...a bike only made for 1.5 years....and most recently.....a 72 Corvette for 7000 dollars. Well, its a 72 with a 81 body, some underbody rust and a slew of small isues...dude, wait this out....please, wait it out...
Here is a rule you should adopt, and make it retroactive, and follow it always:
1. If you agree to a price and seller later raises that price, walk away,
====> INCLUDING, if the seller comes back to your original agreed upon price, deal is still off. Deal canceled forever by seller's action
This is a variation on the auction shill scam. If you are bidding on an item, and you get outbid, never ever accept an offer from the seller telling you the high bidder has backed out.

I'm not gonna lie...I am pretty excited. I can definitely play the take it or leave it roll...but I don't like playing games
I'm just still looking...there is actually a car on EBAY, that was being sold by a CF member...he sold it...then the buyer said the paint wasn't perfect now he is selling it.
Did you bring cash? Helps close deals. When you agree at a price, pay the seller, take the title and drive away. When you walk away, then any deal is off.
Like to hear the sellers' side. Maybe you pissed them off and they raised the price. I've done that several times to low-ballers and nit-pickers.
