Definitly not easy on the yokes. Probably bordering abusive. Ok I'm abusive to most parts on the car.

Here's what Mid America has to say about side yokes on my 76. We went with the drop forged, more expensive version though I'm not sure who the supplier ended up being. I only wanted to pay to have this done once so even though only one was broken, we replaced both.

the forged are a fair bit more expensive and if you get into 1980 or so they get much more expensive by a bunch for some reason.

"Worn side yokes are the main cause of excessive rear tire wear and positrac clutch "chatter". Our Corvette Rear Differentail Side Yokes are available in two different models, OE style replacement for 1963-1982 or our Heavy Duty model for 1963-1979. OE style Side Yokes include Circlip.

Our OE style replacement Side Yokes are spec molded of automotive-quality steel, high frequency fired and cooled to a hardness of 59 Rockwell, then polished and threaded to original GM specifications. The hardened tip resists wear and can save you the cost of future rear end alignments. Our OE Style replacement Side Yokes are available with provisions for U-Bolt type or Cap type U-Joint retainers and include Circlip.

The Heavy Duty Side Yokes are made from aircraft-quality steel, heat treated and drop forged. They are nearly twice the Rockwell hardness of OE Side Yokes. Every dimension is machined, ground parallel and horizontal to yoke center line for unmatched balance and reliability. Heavy Duty Side Yokes include U-Joint Cap and Bolts along with Circlip."
