Palmbeach, are your bumpers fiberglass as well. Do you ever worry about scraping your spoiler more so since its fiberglass?

Yes, bumpers are fiberglass and the spoiler sits high enough that it clears parking stops (curbs will hit) so not too much concern over scraping it.

Once again great looking car...I love how you have the front and rear bumpers molded in so everything is seamless!

So how much does it really help at over 120mph?

At 120 my 75 feels a little lite.

Probably a lot considering how big the front spoiler is.

When Porsche factory went from this:

to this:

it reduced 911 peak front end lift by 40%. So it doesn't have to be huge to make a difference.

Corvette lift profile:

Corvette engineering data:
65 C2 155HP at 120 mph w/ Front rising 2 1/4 inches & rear 1/2".

C3 Mako Shark II fenders early design 210 hp @ 120 w/ Front rising 2 3/4 inches & rear down 1/4".

Vent front fenders, 175 hp @ 120 mph.
Cut front fenders down, cut rear spoiler way down to a lip, add small nose spoiler under, 105 HP @ 120 mph. front rise 5/8".

While the front was still rising, styling had been a feature of GM cars since the 30s so they needed to keep the basic design therefore the near hidden nose spoiler under front & the rear lip- finally eliminated in 74.

The Indy Pace car needed to be stable at high speeds on national TV, both ft. & rear spoilers needed for 78-79.

The Indy front spoiler designed for our Vettes w/ wind tunnel scoops up air for cooling, cleans up airflow underneath & sweeps the airflow around the front tires. I got one from the Chevy dealer asap.

Here is a reply I just recieved from Willcox.

That is the 1978 pace car style spoiler. It is durable, and I'm pretty sure the only mod is drilling a hole in each fender. As far as down force, whether you get this spoiler or not a c3 corvette gets very light in the front end after about 110. There's really no way around it unless you totally modified it, dropped the front end and fabricated your own spoiler. And even then it's still a guessing game without the proper R&D.
Tommy

Si is there a good functional spoiler out there?
I'm looking at Eckler's spoilers right now.

I think he went out of buisness. I thought for sure someone would have picked up the mold. Maybe the demand isn't there.

I read somewhere that F Gregg's molds were stolen years ago so they stopped production. What do you think of this one: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1968-1972.html ?

What I want is for someone to step up and say

" I had issues I purchased "XYZ" and the front feels fine at 140 now."

I'm looking at, http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1973-1979.html

But won't buy until I hear good things about it.

I asked Willcox and they said I needed to do R&D to get a good spoiler.

i have the ecklers 10289 on my car and before i knew any better i thought it came from the factory like that.it has the squared off edges and has proven to be quite tough for the 12 or so years it's been there.i tested it myself on a curb and it came through ok.the fit is near perfect and i can't imagine one that would fit better.i do not work for ecklers.
