The drop-your-pants-and-say-what-what-you-really-mean nature of the internet is great. I loved reading all of the comments on this thread.

After seeing the with and without photos, upon repaint I will ditch the dealer installed luggage rack on my 1969 L71.

+++++++

Vettebuyer5869,

Your car looks soooooooo much better without the gay luggage rack. Add into the mix the original-type redline tires with Rally wheels and your car looks a gazillion percent better than the first pic.

+++++++

Alan71,

You are my hero!

True- and it wouldn't be CF without a post or two to express hatred and contempt on something completely off topic rather than contributing something relevant to the topic. There's a number of people here that I think are complete a-holes. I either skip over their posts or add them to the ignore list if they become a recurrent troll. Making posts just to provoke a fight (as opposed to a technical debate) is a good way to get a post locked.

Mike....

Why do you think every post that has the letters "N C R S" in it is directed at you??? Are you the 'Saviour Saint' of that organization?

People have opinions about lots of stuff....some good....some bad. No one mentioned your name; the poster just thought that being concerned with such minutia [whether the dealer installed rack is "factory" or not] was ****. That's his opinion....and NCRS doesn't need you to run to it's rescue every time a post offers a negative comment about it. Geezzz.....

Conversely, not every mention of factory originality or configuration should be seen as an open invitation for you or your buddies to inject yet another dose of poison. That's no more appropriate than someone who has to bash every custom or modded car that comes along that they don't care for. Nobody even mentioned NCRS till you showed up with some supposed 'issue' that need flogging.

IBTL.

Mike, thanks for helping me sort out my reservations about NCRS.

I now conclude that NCRS is an excellent organization and a resource for Corvette hobbyists. I should not let your attitude to cloud my judgment.

I really could care less about NCRS. I judge my own car by my own standards.

I don't particularly like them but mine had it when I purchased it... I had a list of things I wanted. Convertible, Color, 4 speed, Side exhaust...This one was 4 for 4 so had to live with the rack....

If I were restoring I probably leave it off...

Correct. GM called these units "roof panel carriers" since you can mount the t-tops on the rack. These units shipped with the car, but the mounting holes and hardware in the rear deck were done on the assembly line.

Join the NCRS, Clubby. After that, you make make an informed decision about the organization.

Mike is the textbook example of why I will never be an NCRS member.
