My dash pad needs to be replaced. Does anyone have ideas for getting a replacement? I found a few on vender sites, but I was hoping to find a pick apart place near by, or someone who has a spare, etc.
It needs to be black. I spend the majority of my time in Tipton and West Lafayette, IN.
Finding a good dash pad at a salvage yard will probably be impossible. You are better off buying a brand new one from one of the vendors. The dash pad that is offered by Wilcox has received good reviews. It is supposed to have more material that makes up the internal structure and support as well as having minimal flashing that needs to be trimmed off. Someone recently had a post about installing one of their newer dash pads and had pictures as well.
Whichever route you go just take your time installing it. The more time you take the better the final fit and finished look will be.
I had real good results with my original dash and a replacement "Cap"
Instead of installing it over the cracked old vynal, i ended up peeling the old brittle vynal off the entire dash, and installing the cap.
A little heat gun work afterwards and it looks factory.
all of this for right around $100.00, and about 2 hours of labor. It fit just like it should too.
Or you could spend upward of $400.00 for a Chineese repop.

I would like to see a picture of your dash.
Mine has two one inch rips on either side of the map light above the center dash panel.
A friend just covered his with material from a fabric store for 9.00 plus 10.00 for spray glue. The trick was to start from the center and work tightly outward toward the outside. He said he used a heat gun to help form the corners. Looks great and since I'm not an expert, I would never know the difference. For less than 20.00, it might be worth a try.

Here is mine, it is the original dash, without the original covering.
Like I said earlier, i peeled off the old brittle vynal, repaired the pad with some "Great Stuff" spray foam insulation, and sculpted it with a razor blade, then installed the cap secured with 3M spray contact cement.
A little heat gun work after it was back in the car, and here are the results.
This has been in use for 5 years now with no problems or issues
I got mine from Ecklers. It is stronger and more flexible than my old one. The speaker openings are perfect. I had to flex the new one to get it in and it was perfect.
