Default body mounts

I have a 79 that needed body mounts. I decided to go with polyurethane instead of rubber. Is this a good choice? I am also confused about how they go. The polyurethane bushings have 1 that is cone shaped and one that is flat with the flange that goes into the frame mounting hole. Does the cone shaped mount go on the bottom or top? I'm doing mount 4. The rear end. Most thing I have seen with the cone shape show a receiving bushing with the opposite shape in the middle but the bushing I have are not that way. I got them from Ecklers

On my '74 for mount 1, 4, 5, and 8 the cone shaped one goes on top. On 2, 3, 6 and 7 it goes on the bottom. I just did mine about 4 hours ago.

I believe in the picture your bottom donut is upside down.
also see the 1/8" gap from the top donut to the frame, looks like that one is not seated in the pocket mount like it should be.

I believe your right 69vette. The flange on the flat bushing should go into the hole on the body support bracket. And by looking at the cone shaped bushing the larger end would go better against the washer on the bottom. But like I said I wasn't sure if the flat one went on top or bottom because you could put the flange of the flat one in the mounting bracket hole from the bottom too. I wish there was a spec for the clearance. I may just get the rubber ones so that I get this right. I don't want to cause undo stress.

Thanks for the input ron. I think yours are right but as stated above I want the flange in the flat bushing to be seated in the mount and I'm going to put the cone in with the large end to the washet

OK sorry the mount was still loose when the pic was taken I was writing an article , but I thought the bottom one was on wrong too so I looked at the instructions again and that's they way it was, I have done about 10 cars with different kits and they are all different . Some bushings are the same , top or bottom . I have pics of the other ones and ,some look really wrong! This is another type I came across , car is a 76 and both bushings are exactly the same . But on this one I had to replace the steel support .Again the bushing is not tightened. Ron

Those instructions are for the type in your first picture above. I used the part numbers in the instructions to determine which one went on top and bottom. According to those instructions, yours is wrong.

Having a two C3's (68&70) that did not come with rubber mounts from the factory, if they did I would not replace rubber ones with polyurethane, would stay with rubber mounts. I have installed 73-82 rubber mounts on my 1970 and have the rubber mounts to install on the 1968.

I notice some use the large size body washers where as some use the standard square aftermarket washwers? Does it really make a difference as I assume the body washers are a fraction of the price.

I figured as much, I was wondering if the factory washers were really worth the extra money? Seems the body washers would do a good enough job, I just don't know if the inside hole is the right size.

I get all new hardware , and do one side at a time , and you have to use the same amount of shims has you take out , these are the square ones. Ron
