What is the correct rear bumper letters for a 75? Mine are missing and the bumper cover has three mounting holes. The catalogs show seperate letters for a 75. I feel the cover is original as it has the original paint, gray primer and red primer.76 up shows a one piece emblem, is this what I need? Thanks, Dave.
1974 and 1975 cars used individual letters on the rear bumper. The bumper also had indents in it for each letter.
At some point someone has changed the rear bumper of the car. It was common practice to use the 1976 style rear bumper since it was always less expensive to purchase.
If the bumper cover has three holes and is indented for the emblem it would be a 1976 early bumper but my bet would be that it is smooth with the holes which is the 1976 late design and this cover ran through 1979 production.

If it has 3 holes, it's not the original bumper cover.
The original 75 bumper does use individual letters. A correct 75 rear bumper cover, should have 8 indentations in it shaped the same as the 8 letters and each indentation will have holes in it to attach the individual letters. The bumper was designed to have the letter inset slightly into the bumper cover.
It sounds as if you have a 76-79 rear bumper. you probably need the late 76-79 rear emblem. This emblem is one piece and about 8 1/4" wide.
Darn, Wilcox beat me to it! I've got to learn to type quicker!
As I recall, there were two different sizes of the one piece logo so mother variable in the equation. New covers generally require a bit of finessing to fit properly, but the short answer is no, it shouldn't be wavy. You can also order a hard- as compared to pliable- cover. It just depends on your preferences on originality.
Funny you ask this since Friday night I was at our local cruise and (2) 1975 convertibles show up. 1 has the separate letters and the other has the single (1976 and up) then I look closer and the convertible with the one piece emblem also has a 1976 vega steering wheel. I could only think that his 1975 must have been a real late production car and some 1976 parts made it onto his car. The steering wheel threw me off.

Yes, yes they did. If they ran out of one years model parts they started on the new ones. Also engineering test fit new equipment on the line through out the year.
