I own a 1986 Fiero GT with a '96 Firebird 3.4 engine. I have often wondered what they could have made of the car if they would have kept it in production. In the Fiero camp there is a rumor that Pontiac was considering making a V-8 version at one point; which made the Corvette camp decide to push for it's death. Truth (I believe) is that it was a victim of the bean counters.

It looks like it would be tuff to control (dangerous) in the corners at any kind of speed. There is a lot of "powertrain" weight behind the rear wheels. A side from that the proportions of the Dino and 911 seem a lot more eye appealing to me. Think of what the Fiero could have been if there was a little more finacial support either from inside GM or a higher volume of sales.
