Default Underhood parts plating ?

I'm thinking about looking into having the under hood parts replated. My question is what should I have done.

The main thing is I would like to have the actuators yellow chromate plated, and I'd like to get anything else that was originaly yellow chromate replated at the same time.

Actuators - headlights, and wiper door.
Hood hinges
Hood releases - male and female parts
Carb - fuel bowl, air horn, and all linkage (base plate would be plated regular zinc)

Can anyone think of anything else?

Thanks!

No. I was going to go to a local plater. That's one of reasons I want to figure out everything to do at once. I'm guessing there might be a hefty setup fee.

Hi m,
There's a fellow in Texas that does a really nice job on the headlight and wiper door actuators. Bob Demmel, 214-693-3959.

Alan

Your better off gathering it all up in batches of zinc plate only, ylw chromate only, black phosphate only and get it done at a plater.
The will charge by batch but keep track of the parts so they don't lose any.

I have the caswell kits for ylw chromate, zinc, black phosphate. For small parts it's easy to do.

I do this myself because I'm restoring as I go. It would be a huge pain to gather everything up in a batch and send it out. This means that the entire car is totally disassembled.

It'll cost a fair bit to get the chemistry, power supplies, pumps, buckets etc to do it yourself.

Some of the items on your list were not plated. i.e., hood hinges, They were bare metal.

Do you have the NCRS Judging Guide for your model year? It lists original factory finishes.

Nope - that's why I was asking. Thanks, I'll see if I can find a judging guide.

Hi m,
I took a look at your first post again.
The hood hinges were zinc plated, but didn't have the chromate wash that the actuators have.
The bases of the male latches, and entire female latch (on the hood), were dark gray phoshate. It's a finish called Parkerizing. It's something you can do at home with easily obtainable supplies.
Here's a picture of the phosphate finish.
Regards,
Alan

PS: You can order a 'Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide' for your car at the NCRS site in the "Store". It will have a lot of the information you're looking for, but NOT everything.
