One of my favorite parts of buying a old car is tracing back it's history by looking carefully at the things you find in the car and / or done to the car.
OK... take a black on black Corvette, double-tint the windows (2 layers of dark tint) add a toggle switch to the side of the console which is wired directly into the headlight main power and ALSO the tail light / brake light main power. The switch now kills the headlights, tail and brake lights with one flip of the switch. Now add in the fact the car spent the majority of it's life in Texas.
What does this equate to in your mind?
I'm thinking this '77 we bought has a somewhat checkered past.
addition: AND the fact the car had a high compression, flat top, valve relief pistons with small CC heads, aftermarket bolts throughout, was balanced and had a pretty extensive engine build-up at some point in the past. We calculated the compression to be just shy of 11 to 1

Or, let's see - what can you haul in a fast small car in Texas that doesn't take up too much space and is something you REALLY don't want to get caught with?

That's more of what my thought was as well. Pitch black highways in the middle of nothing, no running lights except when needed. I'll be very curious to see what gears are in this thing. With a high winding motor and tall gears it could have been fun on the top end.

I could understand it if it killed the tailights, brakes and markers....but since it kills headlights too...heck just hitting the headlight switch does that?
Would be interesting to find the previous owner for sure!
I had the same switch, we used to have a little fun blacked out on the expressways around Chicago. There was about 5 of us that used to do high speed runs.
One switch so you didn't have to wait for the headlights to come up and on in case you needed light quickly. We could also have instrument lights and dim them down with the headlight switch in the on position.
We had a little bit of anonymous notoriety around town, you'd overhear some talk about these crazy guys running around at night.
You are correct.. the headlights will do that.. but the switch would stop the brake lights from coming on when you're running... If you know what I mean... When I was young and stupid.. I raced... ran to avoid the ticket.. Once, I pulled in a nearby house driveway and parked, I had my foot on the brake.. at night it looks like a christmas tree ..
and yes I got a ticket... well deserved I might add..
Unless someone was completely reckless....they weren't making the kind of trips you are thinking about in a blacked out Corvette...
We talk about how much attention these cars get....not a suitable car for tthose type of activities. Plus a lack of storage space makes it pretty unlikely.
