Bought a new car and the windows needed to be adjusted. It is tilted and is about 1/2" gap at top. The passenger window fits better but will only roll up the last 1" or so if you open the door.
I pulled the door panels and was thinking about removing, cleaning and greasing everything but when I looked down inside it looks like the tracks have already been cleaned and greased with what looks like a white lithium grease.
I tried adjusting the glass but so far can't get it adjusted properly. The motor goes up and down at the same speed but when the glass comes in contact with the weather stripping it stops. My last car was exactly like this when rolling the window up. I doubt that I have had 4 bad motors that didn't have the power to seal against the weather stripping. Is this an adjustment issue? Something common that I am just going to have to live with?
I'm sure I'll get the window adjustment figured out eventually but not sure what to do about the motor. I have new springs that I can put in it but don't know if that is my issue. Don't want to pull everything out if I don't need to.
I have the same problem with mine also, that last 1/4 inch I have to open the door to get it to go up all the way. Waiting to see what others say......
I've done much work on my car. But, to me, adjusting the door glass is right up there as one of the hardest C-3 jobs. I worked hours to get close but I'm still not satisfied. I set the job aside for a while out of frustration. I'll try again later.
The AIM manual helps but not that much. I wish I knew the secret.
It is an '81. I had to put it on hold til next week to get the glass aligned right. Maybe I just have too much pressure against the weather stripping. I'll work on it some more and see what happens.
I haven't bought a new AIMs for it yet but figure the '78 AIMs would be the same.
Willcox has this, http://willcoxcorvette.com/instructi...stment_pdf.pdf (Same as the AIM, I think)
Use the channel in the middle of the door to square the glass to the upper W/S then make the other adjustments, this works best for me.
it helps to have 2 of these for glass adjustment. the factory used some weatherstrip conditioner lubricant (krytox)to help with glass / weatherstrip contact.

I agree. I bought a suction cup at home depot, read the aims forwards and backwards then climbed inside the car and decided that I was going to get it done. After working and working doing it just as the AIMs said, I got it close but still not good enough to keep it from sealing water out. the gap is smaller but definitely got too much of a gap.
I put it all back together and am going to take it to a shop and see if I can get someone experienced to do it. It seems simple when you read the instructions but applying it int he real world makes you think the instructions were written in Chinese.
I had the same problem on mine. Whenever I got the glass adjusted to where it sealed tight, the window would not roll all the way up, lacked about an inch or so and had to open the door and finish. Ended up replacing the motor and that fixed it. Guess the old one just didnt have enough zip left in it. Its sitting on a shelf, planning on taking it apart one evening and cleaning/rebuilding what I can in it so I have a spare.
