I went with satin as well. It was primer flat at first, but not being hard paint it got a little chalky.

Looks cool to me.

That looks really awsome !!! Did you have to strip the car down to primer?

My car was rattle can red primer when I got it. I had to completely start over. I sanded it down with a DA sander, then did some very minor filling, and then re-primed with Nason 2k primer. Block sanded down to like 1500 grit if memory serves, then sprayed the SEM Hot Rod Black. You can buy everything you need in a kit, and I think I used a total of 2 kits for the whole car with door jambs, etc.

Mine started with about half the body panels being new, the older parts were just sanded smooth and painted.

It is regular car paint with a flatning agent added. It took a while for the painter to get the mix right, but I'm happy with it now. It is pretty hard, and scratch resistant. Better then I was expecting. Ir's only about 6 months old now.

I was wondering because mine has original black paint that has spider webbing in it and I thought that you had to get all the way down to primer to avoid any future paint problems.

My original black is completely trashed. I'm going completely flat/ hot rod/murdered out black. It's cheap and evil. It will be a Darth Vader/ Batmobile/Punisher Industrial theme car. We are attempting to return to the original roots of the Corvette with this one. Black side pipes, black engine dress, pop riveted L 88 scoop etc. No silk Corvette jacket, British sports car hat, Callaways in the back etc.

Flat black paint will show every mark where something comes in contact with it. Rub it with the surface of a ring....stripe. Wipe it with something....streaks. Etc, etc.

Recommend satin black or semi-gloss. You see what satin black looks like in the photos above; semi-gloss has just a bit more sheen, but is just a bit more durable.

Have to find a really good painter. Very hard to get flat black right everything shows on it! No dust dirt or bugs in paint booth. You would figure its an easy job but really very hard and costly if done right!

Looking at the satin black I'm really liking that. Does it have the same problem?

Lol, This idea has been kicking around in me since I went to the theater to see Mad Max in 1979 at the tender age of thirteen. You should Google "mustalgia". They are an outfit out of Tennessee that does really cool Baldwin Motion/ LeMans style fuel doors for C3 vettes. They are pricey but I've got to have one. It will assist in the look I'm going for.
