McJack's are a "direct" replacement for the stack manifolds... Probably a little more than some, but fit and look great...

Headers are just pipe welded together to a flange. No reason to pay 3 times as much. The cheaper headers will probably be almost identical in fit and quality.

Below are the KMJ Performance headers in stainless steel for $161. They look much better than McJacks (ugly welds).

They cost $89 in chrome or $139 in ceramic coat.

McJacks are $695? Are they kidding?

I believe shorty headers replace the stock manifolds.

If you wish to improve your engine's performance as well as the look/sound consider some equal length "full" tubular headers designed to mate with your pipes. "Shorty" headers are a compromise in fitment/performance since they likely outperform cast manifolds but lack the volume/sophistication to truly optimize gas flow. Do a bit of research... I suspect you'll trend toward real headers for both sound and power.

If you read the whole thread, jman1 wants to install 69 type side pipes. Full size headers will not work unless he does some creative and undesirable plumbing.

It is understood shorty headers have less performance. Sophistication? These are pipes.

i have full headers now.... i dont want to have to make a pipe like whats there now... thats the whole reason for getting ones that bolt to the stock location.... im guessing the block huggers are different than other shorty headers...

Why not just find a set of ram horns and be done with it? It should be completely "bolt on" then. Factory side exhaust is restrictive anyway so why go through the trouble of finding headers that may or may not be an easy "hook up"? If you are not changing the exhaust for performance reasons then consider what it will cost to make it all "factory". Are you really going to "feel" the difference in performance between block huggers and ram horns? Just throwing that out there.
Good luck with what ever you choose to do.

jman1,

I have had great success with the rams horns on my 69 with the factory side exhaust. It sounds like you may not have them anymore so without concern for factory correctness, I would assume the shorty type header will bolt up nicely to your pipes. Not sure how much HP you are running, but sweet-thunder makes less restrictive versions of the factory side exhaust.
