My recollection is that they were a pot metal . . . I never had them on my cars, so will defer to those with better knowledge or more accurate memory . . .

The covers were a light weight pot metal (aluminium?) of some sort, and chrome plated. They mounted to fiberglass insulators which had a black finish. The chrome covers can't be used without the insulators.
The kicker is the option (pipes and covers) cost only $147.45!!!!!

Right, no insulators.
You might want to check to see what mounting hardware (beyond the screws into the rocker) the fiberglass covers might need.
