Default Insurance cost

Hello corvette owners. I am purchasing a 1976 corvette in a few months and I would like to know how much it costs for insurance on a 17 year old male driver. I have the good student discount and a clean driving record. Thanks in advance.

if you can get insurance, my guess is $2k per yr. And that would be with min coverage. good student discount may save you 10%.

Not going to be cheap but then it isn't cheap for any car when you are 17. In about 18 years you wont have to worry about it any more. Best bet is to just start checking now with ins companies. Too many variables to get any kind of estimate in here.

Too many variables to say.
Full coverage or just liability?
Where do you live?
Looking for your own policy on your own or discounting off your parents policy and insurance company?

Your best bet is to talk to your parent's agent and see what they can do for you. They should be able to give you the best rate with discounts from your parents account. If you go out on your own as a driver with less than 3 years driving history you will be considered high risk and none of those discounts will matter. You could be as low as $50/month for just liability and discounts from your parents company to as much as a couple grand a year for full coverage at your age. You may even have trouble finding a company to offer you full coverage on a C3 due to its age and you being under 25.

Best bet....call your parent's insurance agent.

I'd give you one of these but you're not old enough yet.
Ah hell... her you go anyway.

By the way, congrats on considering an old Vette for your first car. Hope all works out for you.

too many factors that you didn't list. the largest is the actual location of the registered owner/driver and where the car is listed as "garaged". as i'm sure you can appreciate, it will cost you much more to insure that car (everything else being equal) if it is garaged in LA, miami, NYC etc than if it is garaged in a more rural area of say kansas or iowa or oklahoma. in addition, it would also be based upon the limits of coverage you seek. the only way you are going to get a correct idea of the rates would be to contact some local insurance agents (starting with the agent your parents use) and discuss the various options (state requirements, etc) available to you.

good luck and congratulations on your expected purchase.

Just go to some ins co websites (progressive.com etc) and get an online quote.

sorry for all the holes in the statment.
but thanks for the help anyways
my parents don't want another car on their plan so i have to insure it myself.
will it cost more than 3,000 a year with liability only insurance?

thanks for all your help everyone. progressive said 76 bucks a month, and that seems way too cheap.
i live in a rural state such as Wisconsin or Iowa

If your record is clean, yes it could be that cheap for just liability.

Don't skimp on coverages though. Don't just purchase state minimum coverage. The entire purpose of auto insurance is to protect yourself from getting sued if you cause an accident and injure someone else. State minimum coverage will not provide you much protection. Spend another $10 per month and get higher limits.

Who, in their right mind, would bother to sue a 17 year old who probably doesn't have a pot to pee in?

By the way, congrats on considering an old Vette for your first car.
Hmmm, his username info says '69 Camaro. What's up with that?

That quote may be because of where you live, and basic liability.

Also check some of the classic car ins companies.
I was paying $265 per year for full coverage, agreed value of 22K and unlimited milage, which I was upgraded to the 3rd year. The only stipulation was I could not use it as a daily driver to work.

Good luck, Glenn

I would and then State Farm would after they have to pay out on my uninsured/underinsured policy.

He'll eventually have to work for a living and the paychecks will be garnished for a very long time. I know one guy who has been paying for a number of years and has $7,000 left. Fortunately for him, he just totaled someone's $25,000 car.

We have two newer HVAC systems at our shop with Mustang parts embedded in them. We billed the customer ~ $150,000 to replace the equipment (large medical building). Their insurance company paid us promptly...the 17 year old with NO insurance now gets to have part of each paycheck disappear until it's paid back.

Do you really think an insurance company is going to say "ah screw it...can't squeeze blood from a turnip", pay out and act like nothing ever happened?

ya my dad has a '69 camaro SS, my mom has a 1972 charger, classics run in my family by the way for who ever commented on my name. corvettes have always been my interest. im buying a corvette to make my own legacy. by the way, I totally agree i probably should put forth the extra 10 bucks a month for better coverage.thanks for all your help again. i have a cousin who decided to show off in his crappy mustang and he hit an expensive SUV, his wages have been garnished for almost two years now.
