well my Vette has been running fine lately. I have however hit a minor snag: my manual window handle has broken off, making me unable to shut or open my window. The good news is i have a spare handle on hand.
whats the best way to replace it? Do i need to take the inside panel of the door off?
There is a tool called "GM window crank removal tool" that has been used for removing those things since about the 4th century B.C. or so...any decent parts store probably still has them. It slides under the base of the crank and pushes the retention clip off of the hub of the crank so you can easily remove it.
People, not me, have also used a "shop rag" that they position around the base of the handle to snag the clip & by pulling the rag out they get that clip off. I've always used the tool successfully so no need for the rag trick. Peace,,, moosie
You can get that identical tool mentioned at AZ, or probably any other auto parts store if you dont want to pay for shipping.
I have used the t-shirt trick to get the clip out. Put an edge behind the base, say at 6, and move back and forth while lifting up. Try 3,9 12, etc and it might work. Has for me.
small piece of coat hanger with a small hook bent in one end and a finger loop bent in the other end. Made one years ago and still use it. Keep it in the pliers section of my toolbox. It's free
