Tomorrow I plan on tackling the job of carpet installation. the car came with no old carpet so I have no pieces to match up to. The replacement carpet is from MAM. The concern I have is that the rear fender well pieces dont look like they are very close to a fit. I dont want to trim till I am sure of the positioning and fit. Can anyone send me good pics of the rear carpet so I can see how they are tucked in and trimmed. I searched the site but didnt find what I was looking for. If someone has done one and has before trimmed and after trimmed pics that would be great.
Appreciate any help you can send.
Thanks
Rodney
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm in the same boat. '74 Vert.
Have been trying all afternoon and still have no idea how the wheel well pieces are supposed to fit. Thanking in advance, Bill
Wheel well pieces are the hardest. At first, you wonder if you received the wrong carpet kit!
Best way is to match the humps in the carpet with the hump on each wheel well. Sort of move the carpet around until you find where it fits best. Then glue on the hump. Afterwards, slowy trim excess carpet as you tuck in or glue sections to your car.
Be careful where you cut. It took me five hours to install both wheel well carpet pieces but I could now do it in less than one hour.
Hi Rodney,
One thing that enters in to how the wheel wells are done is whether your car has shoulder belts or not. If it does the carpet needs to be cut for the reel mount and for the bracket for the reel cover.
The front edge of the carpet needs to tuck down between the fiberglass wheel well and the metal bulkhead behind the seats about 1".
The inner side of the wheel well piece needs to extend under the piece of carpet that covers the floor of the rear compartment.
The outer side piece can be cut to extend up the outer side as far as it can.
In the rear the carpet is cut to extend as ar back as it can, even just touching the rear bulkhead.
I'll post some pictures from my 71... a coupe... but they may help you.
TAKE YOUR TIME! It's NOT a quick or easy job!
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for the responses. Today I did the wheel wells and the rear piece. You know I agree with the statement at first you think you got the wrong pieces! After flipping them around a few times it made more sense. I cut more off then I thought I would have to. But in the end things worked out good I think! Now I need to do the bulkhead piece and put in the compartment unit. Thats looks to be another headache! Putting this car back together seems to be a slow moving project. Its good to have people like yourself that offer help and suggestions. Thanks Again, I'll post pics when it is complete.
