So I was searching for the "best" thermo & sound barrier to put down before carpet on my interior resto and was surprised by the high prices of the stuff. $200 ballpark seemed a bit ridiculous. I was comparing Dynamat, Hushmat, Raamat, even Frost King HVAC, etc...
I was pleasantly surprised to find Amazon selling the older version of Dynamat at 50% off. 36 square feet for $130. I thought some of you working on your interiors might like to jump on that.
You referenced older version. What's the difference between older and what they currently have on the market? I'm at that stage right now to buy something.
You need two packs (each will have 9 sheets) to cover up EVERYTHING inside your cars including the doors and the rear compartment. I got a very good deal from Amazon, it was I think $120 for each 9 pcs pack.
From product description, the newer stuff is thinner and more lightweight. I've ordered mine (the older stuff I think), and have absolutely no experience using it. I'll let you know how it goes.
From what I've read here (lots of great posts about install) and elsewhere, a combination of Dynamat and Reflectix is optimal, and judging by advice and istallation pics and videos, it doesn't look to be too complicated. Read on and dive in. Good luck.
If looking to save money you can also use window flashing, can get from lowes/HD. Does not come in as large sheets but many do that and work well.
Just make sure its a butyl product, not asphalt.

Stroh,
Do yours first and then I'll come and check it out to see if it's what I need. Kidding, I'm in Port Huron too bud (actually Smiths Creek).

Terry,
Smith's Crick is too close for me not to welcome an inspection from a forum member. I'd love to pick your brain about some upcoming engine mod's in person. I'll let you know when I get the Dynamat and Reflectix in, so you can come by and check it out.
Everyone, thanks for the info here. It has been quite a whirlwind education. My first vette is not disappointing. It was 45 degrees and dry up here yesterday (bizarre for January), so I bolted the driver seat back in and rumbled around my neighborhood, dragging the names off street signs in a blur as I ripped by. I felt like the piggy going "Weee!" on those Geiko ads when he pauses and says "Pure Adrenaline" to a guy he passes on a zip line, and then screams out "Weeee" again.
I haven't stopped smiling since I bought it last Friday. Not even when I was ripping out the original carpet, which was disgusting. Still smiling, though.
By the way, I picked up aluminum tape ($12), adhesive spray ($10), and Reflectix at Lowes tonight ($15). Dynamax scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Looks like a weekend flooring party. I'll post pix of the process so the rookie can draw some critiques.
Goodle Lizard Skin and there is a U tube on there. Testing the heat showed approx. 30 degree drop in temp. Only the thickness of paint. I'm using that type with mat to get as much as I can. If the Lizard Skin looks like it might be something you could be interested in, let me know, I can get you past the distributor and get the ceramic additive direct and mix your own. Really no reason to ship paint that you can buy locally.
I have a bag of the ceramic cones out in the shop, I can get the name of the place for you in the AM. You can spray brush or roll this stuff on, in any color you want. I think enough ceramic to make 5 gallons of mix cost me $50.00.
While haven't seen it in awhile, there used to be a place B-Quiet.com out of Canada, that advertised on the forum. They'll send you a sample card of their products for $5 bucks or so, which I did. Products look very good, and not that expensive. Maybe something worth looking into.
