Default 72 BB Starter

I removed a Delco-Remy starter from a 1972 454 corvette. The part number is 1108495 with a date code of 2A4. I know that the correct part number for the '72 was 1108400 for a vette with manual transmission. Does anyone know what the 1108495 goes to? I'd like to sell it but am not sure if I can advertise it as a "corvette" starter if it belongs in some other car like chevelle, nova, etc. Any help identifying the correct application would be appreciated. I believe the date code indicates Jan. 4, 1972.

A google search seems to indicate it's a pontiac number. Sounds like yours is a frankenstarter.

Yeah, I checked the Pontiac on-line forum and found out that it fits GTO's and Firebirds with 400-455 engines from 67-72 and 73SD engines. Guess I'll try to sell it on that forum or ebay.

Be sure to mention you pulled it off a chevy. I don't know if the nose housings are the same, kinda doubt it.

that's correct, starters are rebuilt with random parts...most of the time the builders do not identify a starter by numbers.....therefore your starter with a number on the case may be either a Olds or Pontiac except the nose makes it fit a Chevy ......aye

i just took my starter out of my 68 and found its no. was 1108794,probably out of an olds.i called buckeye auto electric,in painsville,ohio,,,1 440 354-2060,,,,to have it rebuilt, and they had my correct no.1108361 housing. they rebuilt the starter, put on a heavier duty solenoid, cleaned and painted it for 63.00 out the door.they did switch my alum. nose over to the correct housing, so that i would not have any shimming issues.plus they work on all sorts of vecheles, model a-and t.fords etc. even military starters and alternators, etc. etc.the guys name is joe-there great people to work with,,good luck,,,tom in cleveland, ohio.

Yeah, they would look pretty impressive going down the road together.
