Default Parts order

I was going to order the window rebuild kit today. Both sides total of 18 washer size plastic parts and the window anti rattle fuzzies. I could hold the entire order in one hand. Couldn't weigh anything.
Even though the order would have been $207, I just couldn't pay over $25 shipping. Since it couldn't be based on size, you think it's based on the amount?

I feel your pain brother. When I ship anything, they weigh the package first. If it falls under a certain weight, they take it off of the scale and measure it instead. Then they hit me with the charges. Whatever is highest. When I order Corvette parts, I'm amazed at how large the space is inside the box once the parts are inside.

don't know who was quoting those prices, but there a re lot of great vendors here. check with wilcox, keen corvette parts or corvette central to name just a few (sorry if i left several vendors out, wasn't intentional). most will work with you (i know keen will because i have had that happen on smaller, lighter parts. they shoved them into a priority box and away they went for under $8.00. also with most of the vendors you can actually speak to someone, and folks like wilcox, bair's and keen actually pick the parts from the shelf with you on the phone. no fancy big warehouse shipping processes to deal with.

Went to Willcox first and didn't see the parts I was looking for. So went to Corvette Central and that's where I got the price and shipping numbers.

Hi IC,
I see in the CC catalogue that the shipping fee is based on the dollar value, not actual cost of shipping.
Buy one of their complete welded exhaust systems when they have a shipping special.... a HUGE box arrives at your house in 2 days for $35!
Regards,
Alan

That's what I thought. An exhaust system for $35 and a handful of washers for $25. Not going to happen. Some parts folks will want the business.

Give us a call or stop by and see us. We are only about 25 to 30 minutes from you, and we should have everything in stock that you need. Just call us to make sure.

We ship based on actual costs from shipping companies (UPS, FedEx, and US Mail) most of the time, but also offer standard shipping costs on the internet based on the value of the order. With standard shipping costs, some people just want an up front shipping cost when they purchase something, and are happy with that. We like to save our customers as much as possible, which is why we prefer to ship and only charge the customer exactly what we were charged for freight. Most people prefer this because it is cheaper, and shipping is costly enough to begin with. I hope this helps!

Kevin

Thanks, That makes sense to charge actual shipping. The less spent on shipping, the more to spend on parts. I know Cleves, right up the road so to speak.

try living down under...
the shipping costs are over the moon
i try to use willcox, as they have a shipping calculator in the checkout area
not such a huge surprise when you get your bill
i have to compile a list of needed parts and wait till i have enough to warrant the postage cost
it's not as if the seller is just down the road that i can pop into anytime
at least you guys get free shipping sometimes from the various vendors

The more collected on shipping, the more profit without splitting it with a distributor. They want your money and aren't trying to get you to buy more parts.

I always shop the vendors who are more fair on their service.

Corvette Central sends me an email for free shipping about every other month. I make a running list and wait for the emails to make my orders.

Yep, you really have to watch the stuff on Ebay also. The shipping can get crazy. Some people charge to have things packed professionally. I've gotten a piece of steel (more or less) inside of enough bubble wrap to float a bass boat. Then some folks will send a wheel to Ohio from half way across the country for less than the 18 washers I was going to have sent.

I get them too. It just normally doesn't happen when I have picked something to work on. Just a poor timing on my part I guess. I get those notices and by the end of the day they are on down my mailbox. Really it isn't reasonable shipping, it's just shipping beyond what is required. I'll have the parts soon and I'm paying accual shipping. It will be interesting to see what that cost is. That will tell me how much extra I would have had to pay. All of the items I wanted would have fit in one of those US postal envelopes. Nothing fragile nothing heavy. Total weight less than a pound. Less than half a pound probably ounces.

Funny...I was just thinking about this the other day...shipping should be on weight, not by order cost.
