Default Roller latch fuel cap review.

I had thought to title this thread, "Quality product NOT made in china." But then I thought better of it in case someone actually used this forum's search function.

The official name is 68-77 C3 Corvette Baldwin Motion/Grand Sport style Roller Latch Fuel Cap. Whew, that's a mouthful.

I emailed Mustalgia.com the middle of last October when these would be back in stock. I finally received a reply the 2nd of December, that they were. But I never got around to ordering one, what with hunting season and the year end holidays upon us.

I must admit to thinking that, perhaps, the slow boat from china delayed these being in stock. Any of you that have read a modicum of my posts know that I usually sound like the eternal pessimist; the glass is half empty kind of guy, a doubting Thomas for sure. Even though Jared Carson says this on the R&R Specialties, Inc. website:
Our goal is to produce great products manufactured only in the USA that function as designed and meet the customer's satisfaction.
Well I've been fooled by that kind of spiel before. So I looked this over with a fine tooth comb. I even unbolted the water tight seal on the lid to see that telltale CHINA in the alloy casting. I can happily report, NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! I'm well pleased. It is worthy of my Corvette.

It is completely bolt on, even down to the stainless mounting screws which replace those on the original fuel lid. Jason even includes a 1/8" Allen wrench to make the final alignment to position the roller latch wherever you desire; front, back, side to side. So all you need to provide is a stubby #2 Phillips screwdriver. A full installation instruction sheet is included.

I should point out that this is a cosmetic fuel cap only. When you open it, you still need to reach in and remove the OEM gas cap for refueling. The opening is big enough for doing so.

It is polished to a fair-thee-well and that takes considerable skill on the domed lid! Even places that will never be seen once it is mounted.

My advice, if you're considering a roller latch fuel cap, is to spend your $$$ on the craftsmanship of R&R Specialties, Inc. in Huntsville, Tenn. Like so many of my Pennsylvania German neighbors say, "Get to know vhot goot is." You'll be glad you did.

I cannot post a pic of its installation since my '69 is packed away in winter storage. It will be a complimentary piece of bling.

I bought that same cap from Jared at Mustalgia 2 or 3 years ago.
I think it is a beautiful piece of art. The cap and the car compliment each other.

Thanks again Jared

15x8.5" Kelsey-Hayes true knock-offs.

1965 Corvettes feature dark face wheels with polished center cones.
