I have a 78 Vette and the passenger seat will not flip forward when you hit the release button. Also, when you are sitting in it, it has a tendency for the left side of the back rest to lean back further than the right side.
Has anyone here had this same issue(s)? What did you find to be wrong?
I have taken the back of the seat somewhat apart and compared to the driver’s seat that is working fine. I can’t see where the issue is yet but I have not completely disassembled the seat to look further. I am hoping that it isn’t a huge problem and that the two might be related.
All advice and ideas are greatly appreciated,
Dano
It happened to me once when the back would not fold while pushing in the button. At the bottom of the seat back are two bolts that can be adjusted and there are two bolts on the bottom seat (3/7). Somehow the bolt head from the back slid under the bolt on the seat bottom and would not allow the seat to move forward. I had to pry the bolt away from under the bottom bolt.
You can move these in and out to adjust and yours might be needing some adjustment.
The rear portion of the steel seat frame is fairly light gauge and is welded to the two sides of the frame. It is not uncommon for this portion to rust or the weld(s) to break. This results in one side of the seat back not being supported.
The fix is seat support plate sold by Corvette America and many other vendors. You will have to remove your seat from the car (4 bolts from below the car); remove the seat back (the 2 pivot bolts); and remove the back portion of the seat upholstery (several perimeter clips that are held onto the perimeter of the seat frame by the tension of the upholstery and possibly several hog rings). This will allow you to pull back the foam enough to expose the broken tear seat rail. Fix it by scabbing the 3/16" support plate onto the existing frame and bolting it to both the back and side seat frame rails.
