Default Loose Mirrors

Is there any way to tighten the passenger and driver side mirrors? They are tight to the car, but the ball which allows for adjustment is loose. Maybe just old and worn. But the PO put grease on them, wich did not help. After about a mile or two, all I can see is the ground..

There does not seem to be any set screw on them. I was thinking of soaking them in cleaner and maybe throwing some sand in there to tighten them up.

Any thoughts or recommendations??

I think if the ball and socket is worn, it's sortta like a worn ball joint and it would need replacing. I know they use to make some "hocus pokus" injector for ball joints (obvioulsly not a good idea) that would tighten they up, yea right, but I don't know how you would get the mirror socket apart to do it.

GD70 has the cure if you do not spend the cash for a new set. Look at his #5 post in the following link.

For a DIY project, here you go:

I've done both: repaired or buying another pair. Both have great results.

Many of the CF parts vendors sell replacements.

Good luck.

Yeah, at some point they are on my "To Buy" list. Trying to spread out my bills as my "motor repaint" has ended up with almost $2,000 over budget. I have the "while I am at it" attitude.. HeHe

I have been called bubba for suggesting this in the past, but I used a spring loaded center punch ($4 bucks on Amazon, HF has them too) to place dimples in a (somewhat) neat pattern all over the ball. I did this because I wanted to see if I could delay having to buy a new mirror; has been like new for 2 years now...
