Does anyone repro the chrome trim on the front of the Halo (t-top back sits on it, from just where the t-top back latch is over towards the center)
Mine has a couple of fairly good scratches and 2 or three pits but I don't see it listed anywhere, or am not using the right name / area for it.
Thanks
Mooser
For the Coupe, there's a large T shaped polished stainless steel stamping. With the T tops off, it covers the body ridge between the two T tops, ranging from on top of the front mirror back to the large external body halo. There the stainless steel part ranges from the drivers extreme side to the passenger's extreme side.
Is this what you're trying to describe?
This piece is available at Corvette salvage yards. A skilled body shop guy can remove the dings. Deep scratches are probably not repairable.

No, its the two chromed kind of "L" shaped runner parts that go out from that center "T" piece, out towards the t-top post by the door glass.
AIM says they are MOLDING -ROOF UPPER, 3972307 (8)
I found some old posts that said no-one was re-popping them, was hopping someone had started by now.
Mine can be re-chromed but I'm not sure if the scratched are too deep (not even sure how they got that scratched, must have been when Bubba barrel-rolled the car on the beach while trying to re-live some Dukes of Gizzard scene)
Hi m,
Milo's right, those 2 pieces are chrome plated castings and thus it's easy to have yours re-plated.
Once the trim piece is re-plated then the wedge and plate look crummy so they need to be done, and then you might as well do the striker plate, too. It's only money?!?

Alan

Sounds about how my projects go, I've got the entire rear suspension out of the car, new T/A, new u-joints, rebuilt spindles, new shocks, all new bushings, new gas lines, been powder coating everything that'll fit in the cooker, POR15'ing everything else....
And all I wanted to do was change the center-caps..........
Thanks guys
Don't know how original you are keeping your car but ever think about buffing them out and powder coating them?
Was actually thinking about that today while coating the bolts for the spare tire carrier. Only problem would be with so much chrome and stainless leading into those parts it would probably stick out like a sore thumb (Car being bright yellow could have black)
Mine aren't that bad, but just like Alan said, when everything else is getting better, the OK gets worse
OH.. now I know what you mean. I have a few sets, but they all are pitted. Some master chrome restorer person needs to fill the pits with lead....$$$$
The wedge bolt, and its plate are available in stainless steel. I don't know if the vendor is a sponsor for CF. PM if you want to know where to buy the stainless.
Hi Mooser,
This happens with so many parts on the car.
A new paint job seems make glass that looked o.k. suddenly look 40 years old. And the bumpers....?
New seat covers make the carpet look worn, so you replace the carpet and then the sill plates' scratches seem more obvious.
ON and ON and ON.

Alan

Thanks for the offer.
Mine was converted over to the later style single lever / bullet style glass roofs when I bought the car. I was going to converted it back (bought a set of used roofs at a flea-market) but found another set of virtually perfect fiberglass ones of the new style when the car was in at paint so I went with those.
Considering I never put them on the car even once last year, I've got quite a selection of t-tops in various places around the house. Should sell the glass ones before they get scratched or broken
