Default Matching Numbers

I know this question has been asked several times but just trying to confirm numbers.
VIN 194678S425827

engine stamp 18S425827

What does the 18S on the engine stamp stand for?

Would the sequence number refer that this is the 25,827 vette built by St. Louis?

This will break down the vin for you:

http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1968/68id.html

The suffix on the pad will tell what engine is in there as opposed to what someone told you is in there.

Sorry Cobfree - my mistake - Mine shows a 18S also on the pad. Noontime here and I am still not thinking straight.

The 1 means that it's a Chevrolet product. The 8 is for 1968 model year. 25827 is the sequential build number so yes it's the 25,827 1968 Corvette built.

Although the numbers 'match' this does not guarantee that it's the original factory engine or stamp.

Just checked and HE is stamped on the engine for the 327/300hp manual that it is.
Thanks, can't wait for the weather to get better to get it out again.

Yes. All 68s have the 4 following the S in the VIN. I'm guessing your car was built in July, 1968. The time/build code is in the upper right corner of the trim tag.
