Default Antenna Cable Routing

I was trying to replace my cut up antenna cable yesterday in my 73 vert. The AIM has a drawing but is pretty vague, especially on the routing in the dash area. Based on fragments of left over old cable and the drawing in the AIM, I believe that the cable routes through the grommet for the rear wiring harness, along the inside of the sill plate, through the kick panel hole (this looks hokey but is covered) and up over the steering wheel somehow.

Without removing the dash, it isn't clear to me how you would route the cable into the retainer hooks in the dash. My dash does need to be replaced and I presume that removing it would snap it into many pieces. While a good excuse to get a new one, I don't really want to do this right now. Also, it looks like someone routed a replacement cable through the center console at some point. It looks newer so I presume this is not the stock location.

Anyone done this recently?

yes the ant in stock position comes from the stereo up over the steering column down running along the sill plate and then through a grommet with the rear harness as you described. If I was just running the antenna I would not remove the dash pad! pull the seat climb in on your back and pull it through where ever you can so it is not seen while seated in the car.

Thanks Sully. Kind of what I figured. Just looked a little hokey, particularly going through the hole in the pocket behind the kick panel.

I might try to use the old cable to pull the new one through but I don't want to get too caught up in something silly like that.
