I've seen a couple pictures of 79-82 Vettes with a 140 moh speedo and figured they switched out the whole unit. But then going through one of the vendors books I see that they carry a 140 mph face to replace the 85 mph. I can see it would be a easy swap but how would you calibrate it??
http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com/several people on here have used these guys .give them a call .i was going to do it and then i thought how often am i over 85 ?but it does look good 140 mph
they got rid of the 140mph speedos mid year in 1979 an went to 85mph 79-82 so if you have an early 79 likem ine it came with a 140 if you have an late 79 you got a 85 and they also got two rear compartment buckets instead of the three that came in early 79 an earlier an 80-82 with the 140 would be aftermarket
Thanks! Not saying I'm gonna do it I just think it looks cool. I would never go that fast in my car....and to think of it I don't even think it could do it or get close to it.....
FWIW - to me if the car is totally stock: stay with the stock speedo. If you've stepped it a few levels, upgrade the speedo to represent the increased capability !
