OK, my ongoing "De-Bubba-Izing" continues!
Well, MAYBE this one is NOT caused by "Bubba"...

Took the '69 out for a cruise last evening.
Doors are tightly shut.
Turned on the headlights while on the way home and the "Door Ajar" light turns on, along with the headlights.
Turn the headlights off, and the "Door Ajar" light shuts off too.
Gee, THANKS "BUBBA"! Then again, maybe this one is NOT "Bubbas" doing. LOL...

Crossed wires?
Dead short somewhere?
Bad door-ajar sensor/switch?

Any ideas?

Ben, the best way to get something done like this is to check the list of moderators for the section you are posting in (usually found at the bottom of the General page) and drop a mod a PM directly for assistance.

Reporting a post will work too, but depending on individual software, a PM is more efficient.

I would go with the crossed wires. For the door ajar switch to come on when the headlights are up, that has to be two separate circuits wired together. The door ajar light should get its signals from the two door jamb switches. Somehow it is tied into your headlights opening.

ten bucks you have the "door ajar" socket swapped out with the "headlamps" socket. These are right below one another in the cluster, and can easily be switched on accident.

I'm leaning towards something other than swapped lights, because the door ajar idiot light goes on even with the headlights in the "Off" position.

Hi Ben,
Have you checked the operation of the door switches with the doors open by pushing on the switches individually?
If they work properly then you may need to adjust the switch (move it out) so the door pushes the switch far enough to shut the lights off.
The pad on the rear of the door had a small square rubber bumper on it that insured that the door pushed the plunger on the switch in far enough.
Check to see that those pads are there.

If the "door ajar" and "headlight" sockets were switched, it wouldn't explain why the "door" light came on with the headlights. The "headlights" (in your case the "door ajar") bulb should only illuminate when the headlight mechanism doesn't fully open. The headlight circuit may be searching for a path to ground thru the "door ajar" bulb. If you had the dash apart and reversed the two sockets and one of the headlight position sensing switches is malfunctioning, the "door ajar" bulb would illuminate.
